I have the Smallrig grip too. Colour coding it silver makes it look part of the camera. Great move. Incidentally you called the shutter release/shutter button a "leaf shutter". Was that a slip of the tongue?

As you mentioned, when I started doing volunteer video filming for non-profits, I used Canon pro-summer video camcorders. Then multi-cam editing with FCPx. They were great. You have done an excellent job reviewing the HF-G70 - (subscribed). Stayed with Canon for DSLR: 60D --> 80D --> EOS-R8 mirrorless (Tanzania camera safari - a must) Considering using this HF-G70 for a political group hybrid-Zoom meetings: in-person meeting attendees also with remote Zoom participants.

You can check level of all tracks in Sound Rec Level Adj. where you change the gain.

Just got one for kids soccer. I was originally looking at mirrorless, but lens complexity/price quickly put those out of range. I can show-up, drop this camera on a tripod, hit record, and move it side to side while paying attention to the match instead of babysitting the camera. With tripod, spare batteries, and 256 GB cards, it was half the price of a mirrorless naked body. Honestly, all I wanted was, "can do 4K for two hours without interruption" and this fit the need. I started the camera search with my nose in the air. To me, camcorders were very 80s. Price/capability of this thing for my use-case was impossible to beat, especially when considering the wallet/time/simplicity factors. Going from $1K for the camera to $1.6K is a leap for a humble soccer dad, and I actually don't want more features to navigate. It's like comparing Apple and Samsung phones based on the number of camera features 99% of users will never use. Point and shoot has value on its own. 🙂 All said, this is a great review from the perspective of someone who knows cameras.

my biggest problem with these converters, is even if you select a 4:3 resolution on your mac, the image gets squished and never lines up correctly with the crt tv. I wish there was a fix to this but I haven’t found one so far.

What If I want to go from my Firestick HDMI to a Standard TV that does not have HDMI it has RC and S jacks wil this work ? Thank You .

April 2024 I ordered a FXLION Nano Two (no wireless) from Ali, I assume this battery is either a version-2 not covered in this video, a stolen piece, or a Chinese fake. Since it arrived with the serial number rubbed/scratched off the back. The battery has 2 d-taps, 1 usb-a, 1 type-c, but it looks like version-1 of this video, I mean the blue/black front label.

I've watched a few videos with "head to head" comparisons of M2 and Max. There are so many variables, but the differences I heard were the same. The Lark is muddy. The other review switched on "Vocal Boost" and now it's muddy with over-hyped mid-highs. So many cool features on Max, but it's not going to work for vocals. Maybe interviews is the limitation (and purpose).

gives canon the win for color accuracy... but just destroys color at max and slightly lower lol its even a few stops earlier then max. Next time test it with auto ISO and change the ND, you will see it better then just turning it to black.

Can you use the camera and charge the batteries via the battery grip at the same time?

Hey! I got the same camcorder as you. I get a low background noise (noisy preamp) when using the internal microphone? When I plug in an external microphone via 3.5mm jack, the background noise is significantly louder (even when its just the cable plugged into the socket). Do you get the same thing?

Lets not kid ourselves, the only reason they can cram all this into such a small package with that kind of zoom, is the sensor size of 1/2.5 inches, and I am not saying thats bad, camcorders have their places too, its just such a shame that camcorders are taking a backseat in todays world, the camera control on modern camcorders are just awful, the grip is fine but older camcorders let you control shutter and aperture with right hand, the same hand you holding the camcorder with, so its all one hand operation, modern camcorders have these awful little buttons to push, that being said while photo body is complete opposite of comfort for videoshooting, at least it has physical buttons and dials. I really miss oldschool camcorders, man they were so ergonomically good.

I know you wanted your 23.98, just a reminder that NTSC is(was) 29.97. Scale is a matter of preference too, but I'm not a fan of pillar boxing a 16:9 frame to maintain the 4:3 aspect of the video. That being said, I'm not archiving anything so I prefer 30fps progressive. If I had your gear I'd try 720p60 on the up-convertor and then apply the appropriate PAR to get a 4:3 image out of it.

Of course the DJI Mike is bigger. It’s got internal recording. Dude started off the review talking about bag with a zipper.

With respect, you DID have a method of testing if it was plugged in properly. The receiver's audio meter for CH2 was clearly not kicking so the transmitter wasn't getting any audio. I can only imagine that you are a one man band who had a million other variables to juggle, and didn't have enough time to make sure everything was operating properly. I'm glad you had a backup audio solution.

how can I use camera receiver and record 2 channels on Logic Pro? is there any way to do it? or I can use the lightning to minijack dongle to register 2 separate tracks with the camera receiver? thanks!

Alway know your gear before going in the field. Also there is a correct way to attach the mic to the clip so it doesn’t rotate. And yeah the windshields could be a better fit
